Your child can check out a book from the school library or our classroom library.
Not all books are "Reading Counts" books.
Mostbooks from Scholastic are Reading Counts books.
After reading a book, a student can login to the Reading Counts program on aschool computer and take a quiz on that book.
Reading Counts quizzes CANNOT be taken at home.
If the student passes the quiz, he/she earns a number of points.
Lower-level books are usually worth one or two points. Higher-level books (such as chapter books) are typically worth 2+ points. (For example,Charlotte's Webby E.B. White is worth 4 RC Points.)
Your child must earn a minimum of 40 Reading Counts points to earn a special reward.
Students will also be rewarded on a monthly basis for earning RC points.
A Pizza Hut "Book-It" Certificate will be given to a student after he/she has read/passed at least four books in a month. That certificate allows your child to receive a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.
Reading Counts pointsDO NOTaffect your child's Reading grade.
If your child arrives at school before 7:45 a.m. each morning, he/she can get a computer lab pass from the morning duty teacher. The student will go to the computer lab to take a Reading Counts quiz.
I try to give my students opportunities throughout the day to take Reading Counts quizzes.
